Wood borers

Insects of the order Coleoptera which feed on wood and use it for shelter and/or reproduction. Same as beetles.

Wood preservation

Combination of preventive and curative measures to control biological (fungi, xylophagous insects, and marine borers), physical and chemicals agents that affect the properties of wood, adopted in the development and maintenance of wooden components in the built environment.

Wood-decay fungus

Fungus which uses the constituents of wood (cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin) as a food source; they cause profound changes in the physical and mechanical properties of wood.

Wood-staining fungus

Fungi responsible for significant changes on the surface of wood, popularly known as mold or blue stains.
