On January 21, 1956, in the city of Porto Alegre, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, the dream of a young couple of chemists began to take shape.
Julio and Ieda Morandi had graduated in chemistry in the same class, in 1950.
He, with a creative mindset and unwavering dedication, transformed challenges into opportunities wherever he went. She, patient and determined, provided bibliographic and research support for Julio’s inventions.
The couple combined their initials with the first syllable of the family surname – Morandi – and thus, JIMO was born: a brand that carries chemistry, family, and purpose.
The beginning was very small, literally inside their home.
Julio and Ieda split their time between their jobs, which paid the everyday bills, and the many hours dedicated to inventing products and materializing the JIMO dream. Ieda worked in state government laboratories, and Julio was a salesman for a local grain wholesaler. While delivering goods from the wholesaler, Julio took the opportunity to offer customers his first products, still made at home.
The first product developed was a liquid insecticide, which had Pyrethrin as its active ingredient — a natural compound extracted from chrysanthemum flowers — and which was sold in 100ml bottles wrapped in newspaper sheets. Julio encouraged local chrysanthemum field cultivation and, to support his insecticide production, committed to purchasing the farmers’ crops.

From the very beginning, he demonstrated his care for the environment and for the production chain.
For a long time, work-filled early mornings were part of the couple’s routine. While the city slept, they studied, tested, failed, and began again. In a time with limited access to technical information, it was necessary to consult bibliographies and studies in other languages, interpret tables, compare and cross parameters, and follow a rigorous and detailed scientific process. And it was from the couple’s integrity that one of JIMO’s main values — Quality — began to be shaped with the patience of those who build something made to last.
As the years went by, the factory grew, the team expanded, and management became more professional. The purpose of improving lives through chemistry, however, never changed. The couple’s children and grandchildren embraced Julio and Ieda’s dream and now lead JIMO with great pride in their history and great passion for the future.
Today, JIMO operates in 11 different segments and manufactures more than 150 products sold throughout Brazil and in Latin American countries, earning various awards and certifications. The production facility is located in Cachoeirinha, Rio Grande do Sul, and features modern and exclusive production lines and equipment.
The pursuit of quality and innovation that guided Julio and Ieda remains a fundamental pillar that directs the company’s strategic positioning.
Seventy years later, the legacy that began with Julio and Ieda is still nurtured and built today, every day, by every person who is part of this journey. It is this solid foundation that drives JIMO to continue dreaming, creating, and transforming—always with chemistry as an ally to improve people’s lives.
Dreaming in chemistry for a better life. This is JIMO’s purpose. This is the purpose of a history of quality.
